Additional Notes

  • Power is 208v, 1-phase. We use C13 / C14 power cables.
  • Network is 1Gb over copper RJ45 connectors.
  • If your computer has lights out management, we can connect that to a private vLAN.
    • It should not be on the public network.
  • Fifteen Racks
    • Each faculty member gets 1 Rack. (Currently we are allocating half racks due to network limitations.)
    • Each rack has 40U (rack units) of vertical space to hold computers.
    • Maximum power of 24A per rack
      • 80kW UPS / 15 racks = 5.3kW/rack.
      • 5.3kW @ 208v = 25A.
    • Ten of them have power. Five of them have network switches.

We label the racks by row and column, starting from the South East corner.

  • Fail2Ban
    • We provide a list of hosts that have attempted to break into hosts in the department. You can access this list to block these hosts. This list is available at https://systems.cs.uoregon.edu/data/hostsdeny.txt
    • You can view the script that we use to update iptables from this list at ix:/local/apps/Local/syncdeny, just run this command from cron
    • If you want to provide information to this list, add the following to your syslog configuration (this is for rsyslog)
      • *.info @systems.cs.uoregon.edu:514
  • Private Management vLAN
    • Connect IPMI. If you have a dedicated IPMI port on your machine room servers, we can make this available from ix. This allows remote console access (if ssh isn't working), and the ability to remotely power cycle your server.
